Recycling Analysis of Agricultural Plastic Mulch
Funmilayo Adesina is analyzing the ability to recycle plastic mulch films as part of WSU’s USDA grant ๐๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ท๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ฏ๐ฅ-๐ฐ๐ง-๐๐ช๐ง๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ค ๐๐ถ๐ญ๐ค๐ฉ ๐ช๐ฏ ๐๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ธ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ณ๐บ ๐๐บ๐ด๐ต๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ด. Alongside advisors Karl Englund and Hui Li, Funmi’s research focuses on developing sustainable solutions for recycling and adding value to agricultural polyethylene mulch films. By investigating how soil contamination affects processing and material performance, she is using feedstock characterization, thermal, mechanical and rheological analyses to better understand the interactions between soil particles and polymer behavior. This work aims to establish acceptable contamination levels that can improve recycling efficiency and expand the reuse of agricultural plastics.
