Simpson Strong-Tie

Simpson is an engineering firm and building materials producer in the United States that produces structural connectors, anchors, and products for new construction and retrofitting. Simpson and CMEC have a long history of partnership together. Every year, the two entities come together to put on the Simpson Strong-Tie Symposium where students get to come and learn about the industry, get some hands-on experience using some of Simpson’s products, experience the CMEC structural labs, talk to people from Simpson and get a glimpse at what their future might look like as engineers Simpson is an engineering firm and building materials producer in the United States that produces structural connectors, anchors, and products for new construction and retrofitting. Trex

Trex is the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing. Trex composite products are made of 95% recycled materials. CMEC has been very involved in wood composites over the last several decades. One of our key partners in the industry has been Trex who continually sends us new products to test at our facility

Nelson Treehouse

Nelson Treehouse is a Washington State-based design and build firm that brings people together through the creation of exquisite, custom treehouses. CMEC has partnered with Nelson Treehouse to test their fixtures and tree anchors. Nelson Treehouse had a TV show called Treehouse Masters that aired on Animal Planet from 2013 to 2019. During their first visit at WSU-CMEC, they filmed part of their episode in our PACCAR structures lab (Season 9, Episode 7)

Mercer Mass Timber

Mercer Mass Timber is an advanced manufacturing company that uses the latest technology to improve how we develop wood-engineered products to design and construct buildings. Their manufacturing facilities in Washington State, Arkansas, and British Columbia feature the largest Cross-laminated Timber (CLT) presses currently in operation worldwide. CMEC has a close relationship with people at Mercer and has tested several CLT products. Faculty at CMEC are actively pursuing new CLT hybrid compositions and connection testing

Huber Engineered Woods

Huber Engineered Woods (HEW) is a sector of the larger J.M. Huber Corporation that designs and engineers new products for roof, wall, floor, and sealing solutions in construction. One of their most recognized products is the Zip System® which is a series of building materials that sheath, insulate, and seal the envelope of a structure. CMEC has tested the Zip System® sheathing as well as other sheathing products from HEW to seismic standards

APA – The Engineered Wood Association

The American Plywood Association (APA) is a nonprofit trade association that works with its members to create structural wood products of exceptional strength, versatility, and reliability. They represent engineered wood manufacturers and mandate things such as quality testing, product research, and market development. CMEC has had a long-standing relationship with APA and regularly works together to perform inter-laboratory testing to fulfill ICC accreditation requirements for both parties
