Tom was a distinguished professor at Washington State University and was an international authority on wood composite materials. He served as Director of the WSU Wood Materials & Engineering Laboratory and authored hundreds of publications including the book “Modern Particleboard and Dry-Process Fiberboard Manufacturing.” In 1967 he launched the first Particleboard Symposium and it continues today. Tom served as a consultant to the United Nations and many industrial firms and associations around the world. He served as President of the Forest Products Research Society and the Society of Wood Science & Technology. WSU awarded Tom its first Faculty Excellence Award for Public Service in 1983 and he received many other awards from industry. Tom was a rare individual that related equally well with academics, industrial leaders, and students at all levels.
It is our intent to create the Thomas M. Maloney Graduate Scholarship in memory of Tom and his distinguished career. Our goal is to raise at least $100,000 for this endowed scholarship to support deserving graduate students working in the field of wood composite materials and engineering.
We know Tom would be pleased to help students further their education and make their own important contributions to the wood composites industry. If you would like to give to the Thomas M.
